New Host

The hosting move is complete. Sorry for the delay. We'll be back to the Rat's usual bloviatings shortly.

Technical Update

FYI. Just to let you know, we're close to ready to go. I need my old webhost to complete one thing to allow me to backup a database, and then we'll get moving. I anticipate we should be up and running in the new location by the weekend.

Not much in the way of posts until then though. Happily, I'll have enough bandwidth and space to make sure a second such move will be unnecessary for years to come. :)

PS. The technical problems were due to blogger error, or in, plain language: I'm an idiot.

That pretty well sums it up.

Administrivia

As some of my regular visitors may know, the blog was unavailable from roughly 11 PM Saturday night until about 4 PM AM this morning.

This is not the first time I've encountered an outage with the host. Needless to say, I consider this to be unacceptable performance (Mrs. Rat also has a site with the same host, has encountered as many or more problems as I have and is contemplating a similar move) and am in the process of changing hosts.

What this may mean is that I may be down for 24-48 hours while I make the transition. Do not worry. The domain name will be the same, I'm just looking to make a major upgrade in reliability.

I'm here, and frankly, wild horses can't drag me away from here. :)

UPDATE: Clarification. Any such transition I will strive to make seamless if possible. Any such transition would also take place on a weekend, not a week day.

Ch-ch-ch-ch-changes

with apologies to David Bowie

Made a couple of changes this morning to the site. I added a couple of sites to the blogroll, and added a short list that I hope continues to grow under the NSVLWC banner. NSVLWC is short for (Not So) Vast Left Wing Conspiracy, for the anagrammatically challenged.

Also, I've updated the email address. Worldnet's (hosting service) email service to me has been spotty, so I've added a new address to the fold.

As always email me with tips, comments, flames, questions or spam (because after all, I want to refinance my fully paid off house, have 8+" cut, be able to keep it up all night long, and get enough Oxycontin to overdose a sperm whale).

Drinking Liberally

FYI. Contrary to the notice at left, Drinking Liberally is Wednesday this week, not Thursday. Same time, same place.

Sorry for the sporadic posts. Real life has intervened the past few days. Should be back to the normal pace tomorrow.

Peace.

Thursday

It's a Thursday, which means yours truly will be attending Drinking Liberally (see the left panel, if interested in joining us). Posts will be light today as a result.

Taxes

The Rat is taking the rest of the evening off. Time to go do my taxes, and see how much more of my money gets wasted on hillbilly armor in Iraq.

Look for a full night of blogging tomorrow.

Give a small prayer, sacrifice a small animal, whatever you like to do (or at least think about), for Big Dawg, who has more surgery coming.

Rat Droppings

I'm slowly getting the site into shape. Comments are up, I'm slowly fattening up the blogroll. I'll be working on the style here in the coming weeks, and will add a bit more splash to the header.

Like some of you, I'm glued to college basketball for the next few weeks (March Madness and the conference championship week are the best month of sports out there). If I occasionally wander off topic, bear with me. I'm a sports fan as well as an activist.

In the comments, feel free to tell us of your passions, besides politics, of course.

It's a Thursday

Which means this will be a light posting day. Also, I'm trying to get over a nasty head cold.

I'll try to get a couple up this afternoon if I can find a place with WiFi access. Otherwise, you'll hear more than you want from me tomorrow.

About the Desert Rat

For those who care, (not many, probably):

The Desert Rat is a 40 year old Phoenix area native. He is happily married, with 2 sons, 3 cats, 1 dog, and roughly 40 tropical fish.

A graduate of Arizona State University's Business College, the Rat's awareness began as a teenaged son of Goldwater Republicans. His political awakening began with Reagan's deliberate attacks on the poor and elderly in the first dark days of the Reagan years. As the Rat thought more about it, he realized his own moral beliefs on helping the less fortunate simply didn't mesh with Republican ideology even then, let alone now.

The Rat first voted for a Democrat in 1984 (Walter Mondale), and hasn't looked back since. He became politically active as a result of the Bush shenanigans of the runup to the War on Iraq, and is now an active Arizona Democrat.

The Rat obviously likes pets, which you'll see from time to time. He likes to read, write, watch movies, and is an avid computer/video gamer.

Thursdays

FYI. Probably should have issued a warning last week, but as you can probably tell from the button on the left hand side bar, I'm involved with the Phoenix, AZ chapter of Drinking Liberally. The net result of this is that Thursdays will be light posting days.

Don't worry, I'll be loading up on plenty of snark the rest of the weekend to make up for it.

Coming Soon: Homefront: The War on Grandma, A Tragicomedy in Three Acts.

State of the Blog, Redux

Comments are about 24 hours from being enabled in all their goodness.

Also, look for a splash of graphics, a style change, and a greatly expanded blogroll in the near future.

If you have something you'd like to see, by all means, shoot me an email at the link to the left.

Have a good evening.
